Vineyard Thanisch

The family tradition of the Thanisch winery can be traced back to 1648. In 2001, the son Jörg took over the parental business and continues to run it successfully. The vineyards cover the best steep slopes of the Middle Moselle. The result is finely fruity, filigree Riesling wines with a juicy body and great potential.

Today we cultivate 8 hectares of vines in the most famous vineyards of the Middle Moselle. Why not visit us privately, with your company or your club? You can taste the wines of your choice in our tasting room and deepen your knowledge of wine and its history during a tour of the cellar vaults.

Tradition meets innovation

The grapes, which are macerated for more or less time depending on the wine, are pressed gently and the juice is clarified so that it can settle slowly. The fermentation of all Prädikat wines is carried out exclusively by spontaneous yeasts in order to fully preserve the original expression of the respective vineyard. The fermentation process is temperature-controlled and usually takes a very long time - often into the spring. This leads to a very complex character of the wines and promises a long shelf life. It goes without saying that we do not use any fining agents or other additives.

Our red wines are fermented in the vat for about 2 weeks after the classic mash fermentation. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is matured in old wood (fuder barrels) or in new French barrique barrels.

The wine

Jörg Thanisch's wines, which are already considered an insider tip, are incredibly juicy and complex, but also offer the typical filigree and fruity acidity. Riesling predominates among the grape varieties, followed by Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Jörg Thanisch risks spontaneous fermentation for all wines.

Awards from  the press and wine guides

Gault&Millau 2020

3.0 F: "Very good wine quality".

"The current Rieslings are of impressive clarity and precision. Clear strengths lie in the fruity-sweet Rieslings. The Grosse Gewächs from the Paradelage Berncasteler Doctor clearly has substance and fruit, embedded in a striking acidity that gives the wine verve and freshness."

Gault&Millau 2020

Four red grapes In Gault&Millau 2020: "very good winery".

"..his best site, from which top growths come year after year, is the Lieser Niederberg Helden with its soil interspersed with slate. This brings minerality to the glass, Thanisch lets his wines ferment spontaneously to a large extent in order to be able to depict the authenticity and special features of the terroir one-to-one in the taste.
