Marienburg "Fahrlay" GG (Grand Cru) 2018
The 2018 Fahrlay GG offers a beautifully complex nose of pear, lemon zest, gooseberry, mint, wet stone, liquorice and subtle creamy elements. On the palate, the wine is precise and grippy, and the completely dry and long finish leaves a spicy and herbal feeling. A wonderfully spicy expression of dry Riesling in the making.

The Fahrlay parcel is a south-facing terraced site. It is located directly next to the Pünderich ferry landing stage, hence the name. This is the only place in the Pünderich vineyards where the blue slate dominates. This slate is much harder and does not make it easy for the vines. It takes 15-20 years for the roots to penetrate the deep, watery cracks in the slate. There, even in dry years, they find enough water and nutrients to supply the grapes optimally. Only the best healthy grapes are used for this Grosse Gewächs. The result is extremely mineral wines that often appear edgy and cool when young, but then present themselves as increasingly complex with increasing maturity and show great storage potential.
