Marienburg "Rothenpfad" RESERVE Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) Riesling dry 2019
The nose shows brown sugar, pear, liquorice, cassis, minty herbs and earthy spices, the palate is beautifully firm and intense. The focused and persistent finish is subtly fiery and wonderfully balanced. Hints of cassis, minty herbs and chalky minerals add freshness to the aftertaste.

The "Rothenpfad" plot (above the railway viaduct opposite Pünderich) is part of the current Marienburg site. The soil here is very light and based on very soft, weathered red clay slate. The particularly steep site has no road access, so machine use is out of the question. This means for the vines that there is no compaction by heavy equipment, thus ideal conditions for healthy root growth.
For our RESERVE filling, we select a "Fuder" in Große Gewächs quality. This wine remains on the full lees in the barrel for at least 24 months. After this particularly long lees storage, the wine is taken off the lees and bottled unfiltered. The reserve wines are less fruity but more structured and complex. These wines need a lot of time to develop, but patience pays off!
