Marienburg "Fahrlay" RESERVE Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) Riesling dry 2018

It offers an herbaceous spicy nose with the fruity elements (including pear, melon, mirabelle plum and greens) playing only a secondary role at the moment. On the palate, the wine is nicely intense and grippy, leaving a feeling of spice and ripe fruit in the long finish. The aftertaste is soft and quite long lasting.

How to Take Clothing Measurements

  1. Get a flexible measuring tape. These are often sold in craft stores
  2. Neck:
    • Measure around the base of the neck in inches.
    • Round up to the nearest half inch.
  3. Chest:
    • Wrap tape measure under armpits around fullest part of chest (usually right above nipples
  4. Sleeve:
    • Bend your elbow and rest your hand on your hip.
    • Have someone measure from the middle of the back of your neck to your wrist by putting the tape measure over your shoulder, around your elbow and to your wrist.
  5. Waist:
    • Wrap tape measure around where you normally wear your pants. Keep tape measure a little loose by keeping a finger between the tape measure and your waist.
  6. Inseam:
    • Put on a pair of shoes.Have someone measure from your crotch to back of the heel, where you want your pants to end.
  7. Hands:
    • Measure around the hand at the fullest part (exclude thumb). The number of inches shows the size of the glove.

The Fahrlay area is right next to the Pünderich ferry landing stage and is the only area of the Pünderich Marienburg where blue slate dominates. The blue slate is much harder than grey and red slate. The vines have a hard time when they are young; only after 15-20 years have the roots penetrated the deep, watery cracks in the slate. There, even in dry years, they find enough water and nutrients to supply the grapes optimally. Only the best healthy grapes are used for this Grosse Gewächs. The result is extremely mineral wines that often appear edgy and cool in their youth, but then present themselves with increasing complexity as they mature and show great storage potential.

For our RESERVE filling, we select a "Fuder" in Große Gewächs quality. This wine remains in the barrel for at least 24 months on the full lees. After this particularly long lees storage, the wine is taken off the lees and bottled unfiltered. The reserve wines are less fruity but more structured and complex. These wines need a lot of time to develop, but patience pays off!
